Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. A lot of people are wondering why this has become so increasingly mainstream in recent years.

There is a very basic reason for this. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

Botox for men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The truth is to the contrary. Granted that majority of the people who undergo botox injections are women, these days' even men are undergoing these procedures. Some newspaper reports have even gone to the extent of calling it 'bro-tox'! It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

Trends are changing

The use of botox is rising. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Not only are botox treatments used to help those who have cosmetic issues, they are used for muscle spasticity disorders as well. Children and adults who suffer from cerebral palsy have had botox help them, as well as those who have blepharospasm and also conditions such as spastic paraparesis. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
